Advanced Studies Branch

The Advanced Studies Branch has five divisions within the department:

• Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Division
• Student Financial Services Division
• Student Loan Corporation of Newfoundland and Labrador
• Adult Learning and Literacy Division
• Skills Development Division
• Institutional Services Division

Responsibilities

The branch provides:

• oversight of the public and private post-secondary education in the province, including institutional and industrial education;
• support to the Council on Higher Education;
• policy development;
• student financial assistance;
• skills development;
• coordination of planning and advancement of adult literacy; and,
• Adult Basic Education

Services

• administering provincial and inter-provincial Red Seal examinations
• registration and certification of apprentices
• curriculum development for apprenticeship training and Adult Basic Education
• regulation of private training institutions
• student financial assistance
• post-secondary data analysis, research and policy development; and,
• participation on provincial and pan-Canadian committees

• Post-secondary students
• Adult learners
• Individuals in repayment of student loans
• Literacy/ABE providers
• Employers
• Special interest groups
• Government departments and agencies
