Income Support Division
The Income Support Division delivers programs, services and benefits to
individuals who need assistance. The policies and programs of the Division of Income Support are
governed by the
Income and Employment
Support Act
and
Regulations
.
Services
- Basic assistance for food, clothing, shelter and other personal needs.
- Medical transportation, vision care, dentures, municipal taxes, fuel
allowance, special diets, comforts allowance for those in residential
settings, blind persons allowance, burials and special needs assistance.
- Emergency and disaster services when required by clients and
communities, and business continuity planning for the department.
- Prescription drugs and medical equipment and supplies provided through
the Department of Health and Community Services.
- Services of Support Application Social Workers who assist clients or
members of the general public to obtain support orders or agreements on
behalf of dependent children.
- Referrals to other divisions, departments or agencies when clients are
identified as having a specific need such as employment services and
personal or family counseling.
Clients
Clients are individuals or families who have insufficient financial resources
(income and liquid assets) to meet their basic living requirements. Client
groups which may require financial support include people living with
disabilities, single parents and their children, single persons, childless
couples, two parent families and people who find themselves in need of services
due to emergencies.
