2011 Consultations

Income Support Legislation Consultations

A consultation process will be conducted to gather input on the Income and Employment Support Act and Regulations (IESA). The legislation was proclaimed in 2004 and reflects a new approach for combining income and employment supports under one piece of legislation.

This relatively new legislation has implications for a large group of clients, stakeholders, advocacy groups, employers and community partners. It is necessary to consult with these individuals and groups to verify that the direction of the Income and Employment Support Act is still appropriate to meet the needs of people who require supports and benefits. It is also important to assess where gains have been made, where improvements are still needed and where gaps continue to exist in the legislation.

Consultation Process

The legislation requires the Department of Advanced Education and Skills to conduct a review of the Income and Employment Support Act and Regulations every five years. The Department is seeking your input on the current legislation, the progress that has been made over the past five years and changes that will be required for the future. The Department will be accepting input from any interested individuals and groups during the process.

In addition, the Department of Advanced Education and Skills will meet via discussion groups, with individuals and organizations who are affected by, or who are impacted by the delivery of services related to the legislation. Clients and key stakeholders will be invited to sessions throughout the province.
