Services for Victims of Violence
We support all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador who have to leave a violent situation. If you are in immediate danger, contact the RNC or RCMP. You can call a shelter or Advanced Education and Skills staff any time of day or night:
- Shelter numbers are available in the emergency section of the telephone book
- Toll free number for Advanced Education and Skills staff for your region or after hours 1-877-729-7888
Emergency Supports for Victims of Violence include:
- transportation to a shelter/transition house or other safe location
- accommodations
- personal allowance for the period of time you reside at a shelter (this is based on your financial circumstance and is delivered by the Department of Health and Community Services)
Supports for Victims of Violence in receipt of Income Support benefits
include:
- continuation of income support benefits based on your financial circumstance
- transportation may be provided
- to move from one shelter to another for safety reasons
- to move household furniture
- to supportive counselling
- outside the province for safety reasons
- start- up allowance as a contribution towards obtaining furniture, linens, clothing etc. if it is determined to be unsafe to return home for these items
- services of the regional liaison social worker
