Post-Secondary Instructor Certification

Under current policy, Instructors approved to deliver vocational training in a private training institution, with the exception of those who possess a Bachelor of Post-Secondary Education or a Masters in Education, will be required to obtain a Post-Secondary Instructors Certificate. The requirements to obtain this certification are the following Memorial University Education Courses (or equivalent):

  • ED2710 Course Organization and Development
  • ED2720 Introduction to Post-Secondary Education
  • ED2730 General Methods of Teaching in Post-Secondary Education
  • ED2801 The Adult as Learner
  • ED3280 Educational Assessment
  • ED3801 Educational Media

Instructors are required to obtain two courses per year. Application to the University must be made immediately upon hiring to begin the prescribed education courses in the next university term.

Instructors will be advised of this requirement when their approval to instruct is granted. Instructors who do not comply within the specified time frame will be asked to withdraw from their instructing roles and will not be granted further approval.

Upon completion of the required courses, application for the post-secondary instructor’s certificate must be made to the Superintendent of Private Training Institutions, including a letter of request and an official transcript showing completion of required courses.
